The Suffolk Group

Pris Forrest

I was brought up on the West Coast of Scotland, painted and drew obsessively as a child, and eventually attended Edinburgh College of Art, in the School of Drawing and Painting. In my Post Graduate year I had a studio directly above the new Printmaking Department, a wonderful opportunity!

Entering on domestic life, the family moved to Suffolk. At that time, I met and worked with Yvonne Drewry, an inspiring printmaker with a unique approach to relief printing. Eventually I secured a job as technician, and then tutor, in the then extensive Printmaking department at the Suffolk College. At the same time I set up my own studio at home, and concentrated on Etching and Relief printmaking. I joined the Suffolk Group at the very beginning of its existence, under the auspices of the wonderful Richard Scott, then a senior painting tutor at the Suffolk College. I also had great support from Ken Roberts, the Head of Printmaking at the College.

My work has always been drawing based, taking inspiration partly from my involvement with musicians, my daughter’s interest in horses, and from the watery landscape around the Alde and Ore estuary. I exhibited with groups of other artists including the Painter-Etchers, both locally and abroad, and have had various solo shows. I now belong to the Sudbourne Park Printmakers, using the wonderful facilities at Sudbourne to further my craft. I am also branching out musically, moving my violin playing from folk to classical. Inspiring!
